I got the information it is viscaria custom to be tried by a player, does anyone know about this?

@NoRema
I also can not conclude whether the goods are fake, when seen from the words "Viscaria FL" on the lens that looks like the original

Special Order (特注)has no serial number. How does it play?
I am waiting for my 特注 which costs a lot more than the market version.

Date Posted: 03/05/2015 at 10:50am
This is "unusual", because Butterfly blades got a serial number since 2002 and a black metal tag up to 2005. From 2006 on they got the silver tag.

1987 - 2002 = black metal tag, no serial number
2002 - 2005 = black metal tag + serial number
2006 - 2014 = silver tag + serial number

If these informations are right, there was never a combination of silver tag without serial number. Of course I am not 100% sure, that my informations are right. Maybe one of our Butterfly collectors can verify my informations.

Each first letter represent a Butterfly's datecode for each year :) Just count back the serial number with first letter"O" down to letter "G" :
- O for 2014 Silver tag.
- N for 2013 Silver tag.
- M for 2012 Silver tag.
- L for 2011 Silver tag.
- K for 2010 Silver tag.
- J for 2009 Silver tag.
- I for 2008 Silver tag.
- H for 2007 Silver tag/old black metal tag (update by Dean).
- G for 2006 Silver tag/Old black metal tag.
- 2005:  new version M.Maze ALC with silver tag and without serial number appeared in Butterfly 2005 catalog. Link:

So none of those Butterfly blades manufactured in 2005 or before had a serial number but silver tag :)

There's a series of Butterfly M.Maze ALC blade with silver tag but without serial number, same with Kreanga Carbon ULC blade. Not too long ago, member oldblades from Taiwan and prospin from Singapore sold here a Butterfly M.Maze ALC silver tag without serial number. However, this Viscaria FL is the first one I have ever seen on the used market :)

Actually, special ordered Butterfly blades do have a serial number.  I have a Custom Iolite specially ordered from butterfly that does have a serial number and a very sweet packaging.

I made up my mind about the 3rd series Viscaria some days ago:

As I had and have different blades with letter H serial and old metal tag, I only disagree for the year 2007, in which BTY still delivered serial number along with old tag.

1st: 1993-1996 old metal tag
2nd: 1997-2005 old metal tag
3rd: 2006-2007 (G,H serials), old metal tag
4th: 2008-2014 (I-O) "old" silver tag
5th: 2015 (P) "new" silver tag

The time when butterfly change to silver tag not the same time when they start using serial number.
But this is only within a year if i not mistaken so not so many blade like that.
You can see old blade like that with new silver tag but without serial number.
I also got one maze like that.

Yeah, I also had Maze ALC AN with silver tag and without serial number, it was 91 grams and very large handle. Now I have FL Maze ALC with silver tag , without serial number and it is 88 grams.
The AN blade was definitely more powerful...
In another topic I still explained that you can not be sure in the playing skills of these blades without test.

I have two special made from butterfly. They DO have serial number. If you ordred your special custom blade to butterfly, they will send you, with the blade, a paper like this one :

And one the blade there is a serial number also !!!!! If you got one without, its a fake for sure and for sure it doesn't come from Butterfly Japan. Also you will find the same serial number ONE THE BOX. In fact just like when you buy a regular mass market butterfly blade.

The blade also have NO MARKING, only the serial number + siver tag + JTAA. Even "viscaria" won't be marked on the blade

I have ordered twice a special made to butterfly Japan, and I still have a special made Kong Linghui Special with M. Maze ST handle (not the blade from the certificate above) :

Maybe versions made for pros which are sponsored have no serial, but i'm not sure about it.

Butterfly are very responsive if you ask them for an authentification, its very important for them to confirm (or not) if a product is geniune (or not).

And concerning the special made KLS with "ST M.Maze" handle, for those seeking a review : its the best blade ever made :D But freaking expensive :( And the waiting for a special blade is absolutely random, you can end up waiting several month if you are unlucky.

I'm planning to order a second special made KLS, need a blackup :D

Yesterday I bought a silver tag Butterfly Maze without serial number ... I paid 60 euros . I saw Butterfly blades with nothing written on the blade and serial number and I can tell that a lot of blades were brought to trial for professional players ... they were just sample and are usually worse quality than the original ones out for sale on the market.

I have such blades (see above), without any marking also on the handle, you will get those blades by making a special made blade order to butterfly. For example, ask them to craft you a brand new Kong Linghui Special with highest wood quality and a specific weight, a specific handle and a specific head shape. It will cost you 4 times the price of an usual butterfly carbon blade and there is no way it is "worse quality". And you might wait your blade a very long time.......

Concerning your blade, you can just email butterfly with some pictures and how you bought it, they will kindly answer you if it is a real one or not. You might wait a few weeks the answer btw but they will answer. I bought a Mizuntani sZLC from ebay, honestly i was 99.99% sure it was a real one and just asked butterfly to have the proof in case i would resell it. It was a fake, and it was a freaking good fake, blade with incredible power and huge sweet spot....they got me, despite dozens of butterfly blades I have bought/owned and still own.

It's just ordinary blades...in the place I saw, they were sold very cheap...around 50-60 euro...in my opinion, quality Butterfly blades are about to be launched at great prices !

Butterfly doesn't act this way, they don't do a "various quality price" on their regular market blades (unless you order a special made, with selected wood quality).
In my opinion, you got a fake one.

You don't understand..I just saw, I don't buy it...I play several minutes with such a blade and I didn't like it...I buy a original Maze..it's a different story !

I ahve seen custom made butterfly blades. They all have serial numbers. But I have to tell you something...
If this blade is made for a pro player, it doesn't have to be with serial number.Serial number is for the buyer to know that there is in the list of butterfly and it is authentic.I have e blades of K. Kreanga. The 2 are old tagged and the last one is from new version with silver tag but without serial and also without label on the handle! So there is one possibility that finspin is told right that this viscaria was for a player. But the blades for players are not coming in boxes, I know that but not for sure!

I once had a Viscaria made with a Clearfield handle and it came with a serial number and that certificate also.  (It weighed a ton).

But maybe it is different when they make special blades for pro players.

There are blades with silver tag and no serial number.... they are not very common as they are only produced only in certain period.
They are certainly not fake. Therefore, Please do not listen to rumours or conclusions made by ignorant people or amateurs.

Also,
Butterfly blades made in the years when serial numbers are implemented will have serial numbers... Custom blades made before the year of serial number will not have serial number. It is as simple as that...

About the catalog part, i'm not sure if all blades displayed on butterfly catalog do not have serial numbers but rightfully they wouldnt want to display cos others may copy that serial number. Therefore most of the time, catalog blades do not have serial numbers.

Very interesting discussion, really.
So my TBS metal tag and serial number starting with the letter "G" is made in 2006 ?
I thought it is older...

Magic_M you are not right.
Butterfly produced blades made in Japan, before 2006 and with silver tag, as an example the first Butterfly Joo Sae Hyuks without serial number never had old tags. They had silver tag. It always makes me laugh, when people are looking for Joo Sae Huyks with old metal tag.

I happen to have a Viscaria, silver tag with NO SERIAL number. And it is definitely legit. I own 4 other Viscarias all silver tag with regular serial numbers. The No serial tag one I call "John Lennon". It is my main blade.

I just took off the rubber on my Maze ALC - turns out to be a series G - with a couple of dings but otherwise perfect.  is that worth more than a new one  of the current equivalent blade - Freitas I think.
