Subject: USATT Coaching Certification

I am older than 18 and have been a member of the USATT for more than two years now, and am therefore desiring to pursue coaching certification. At my local club I coach approximately ten players for about five hours per week, and feel like adding the certification to my resume would boost my credibility. When I sought out information on the USATT website, I noticed that there was no place to request becoming an official coach, save for sending in something written.

Is there a way to request coaching certification online? I am rated about 1850 and only desire to obtain the club coach level. Also, the instructor's guide I managed to find on the USATT website is extremely outdated. It mentions games that go to 21 and alternate serves every five times. Why is this?

Thanks in advance.

Good topic.  Hope I am not hijacking your topic, but I think that the sections on the site for both umpire certification and coaching certification should be reviewed to improve accessiblity and transparency.  I've always felt discouraged by looking at the certification requirements for umpiring - maybe I should just speak to Roman directly as he seems to be a pretty nice and upstanding guy.

I believe Richard McCaffee was running courses for ITTF coaching certifications. Perhaps you can contact him or ITTF website might have listing of courses in the USA.

Ok, so the only way to obtain this certification is via contacting higher up officials? I really just wish that there was a more simplistic approach to this.

Any other information you can impart? I appreciate the feedback hitherto.

You can become a club coach with a rating as low as 600 or become a level one coach and take the courses:

As low as 600? Where on that page does it indicate that? I have been to that page many times before, but I'm still confused as to how to send in my request for certification. Unfortunately, the website doesn't make that very clear. I presume I could always send a letter to them at the address, but I was really hoping that there was an easier way to accomplish this objective.

Hay Johnathan, I know you just want to acheive the club coach stage, but the thing is getting the ittf level 1 certificate is just abour recording you have done your 30 hours, this could take you a few months or over a year , but it dosn't matter, then once recorder and ticked off by  a headmaster or table tennis president type person, then you can book in for your assesment which is like a approved person watching you run a group of kids for 2 hours (so easy) just have a scedule and keep time of the activities

So essentially the best course of action is to keep a log of my coaching activities? If so, I can definitely do that for a little while.

Over here, ITTF conducts level 1 once a year. You will need to attend the course with 100% attendance. Once done, you will proceed to clock in 30 hrs of coaching practice and out of which, 5 hrs needs to be supervised by a higher level coach or someone appointed by the National Table Tennis Association.
