Link to official site changed. Prospectus with invited players also released. After the https://www.tabletennisdaily.com/forum/showthread.php?22620-Asian-Cup-2020" rel="nofollow - ill-fated Asian Cup 2020 , we're back to the original invitation criteria but the knock-out format sticks.

It's reported by the fans ZYL is applying for a teaching post at an institution in Chengdu. If true, ZYL will likely not play.

If untrue, will ZYL play?  I don't see the universe in which she is still a part of the core women's team going forward.

If untrue, will ZYL play?  I don't see the universe in which she is still a part of the core women's team going forward.

Was still operating in Douban-mode where ZYL fans still frequent.

Douban users have lost it(FZD and SYS/WMY not going, let alone ZYL)and are taking it out on the coaching team right now.

The current entry list does make the tournament more "exciting" - we can pretend that there is a real possibility that this is a new story and we have no clue how it will end.  Probably a good thing for the fans and the pundits...

Thanks for the info.  I remember her having health issues so I am glad to hear she's well enough to teach now.

A Feature Article was written about Zhu Yuling's current status. Full Article here: http://news.hnr.cn/shxw/article/1/1592038956397719553" rel="nofollow - http://news.hnr.cn/shxw/article/1/1592038956397719553

She had to get surgery because of fibroadenoma. She's currently pursuing her doctorate at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. It's a bilingual program that would require ZYL to also write and defend her thesis in English, and she's actually the youngest in her doctorate class. On going back to studying, ZYL said: "Actually, to be frank, I didn't expect that I would enter the campus again so soon, but in fact, studying is one of my life plans all the time. No matter how many honors and achievements you have won, this is different from going to school. Learning has always been something I value very much."

Zhu Yuling also working in her family business, serving as the executive director of Guangzhou Beifei Semiconductor Technology Co., Ltd., one of her family companies. She wants to give back to her parents: "I am an only child. Over the years, it is not easy to see my parents working hard from starting a business to now. They are now over 50 years old. As a member of the family, I think it is necessary to grow up as soon as possible. Share it for my parents."

If the Asian cup continues with the recent tradition of the world tour where rounds prior to the semifinals are best of 5,we might see some upsets, some of the early match-up promise to be competitive.

35 minutes between matches is what they usually schedule for bo5.  I wonder if it was originally bo5, and they decided to switch to bo7 but forgot to adjust the schedule.

Just realized this listening to Bobrow, tough for CXT.  I guess the best of seven was their best attempt to prevent this but still a roll of the dice.

Lin is playing his "I have never lost to this guy before and this is a best-of-seven game".  He had better switch to his "this guy needs to be massively contained and this is a knockout-tournament" game.

What's going with LGY ... 4-11, 3-11?  Even if he ends up winning the match, this is not CNT level table tennis.

The problem is obvious...  if he cannot play unconsciously, he plays consciously, and when he does that, the self talk interferes with his play with unfortunate results.

Who knew LGY was gonna do his thing lol, I was expecting that in the latter half of the tourney, WCT got an upset and WCQ won his game. Huge pressure on WCQ now moving on forward.

BTW barring his spirited display in the 2-4 loss to FZD recently in Macau, LYJ has mostly been underwhelming on the big stage since his brilliant efforts at the Olympics in mid 2021, He's played in Europe for over half a year now, Is this still issues with his strength or drawn-out poor form, or is this another display of the volatility of strength of men in the top 25 of the rankings??

Unbelievable - Lin Yun Ju, Lin Gaoyuan, Wang Chuqin, Chen Xingtong all lost?! What is happening lol...

Also Chen Szu Yu is showing exactly how not to play against pips - she's just playing slow short serves, slow pushes and control topspins and getting absolutely destroyed by the variation in Batra's game, and also attacking the BH pips where Batra is already in position instead of the wide FH corner....

Edit: she finally realised it in the sixth game that she was winning almost every single point where she FH looped to Batra's FH.... will be interesting to see if Batra adjusts and starts countering those hard. Still it's much better to mix the placements up as the attacker.

Edit: Batra is just pinning her down to the deep BH as a response and suddenly Chen Szu Yu proved that she's unable or too chicken to go down the line strongly.....

Yeah he doesn't really know how to borrow power on the BH, everything is a full body powerloop which is not the most efficient way to play BH-BH pressure play...

I think she did a better job of moving her opponent with her BH. It's a risk that she has to take when hitting the parallel length. But that's better than exchanging BH cross court with WYD in a set position. That's proven not to work. She has to be careful though when she bumps the ball with her pips that it bounces too high, and she's immediately in a defensive position. Disappointing for sure,  but I don't know about devastating.  All you can do is try to improve for your next encounter.

Batra seems to have ascended to another level with her twiddling.  She is almost at the Filus level now, maybe even more integrated.

No doubt, Harimoto is a massive talented and a very very hard worker. Totally deserved W#2 spot. Is this the highest ever for Japanese men?

This must be devastating for her.

She still has the nasty habit of overhitting without topspin especially on the FH...which cost her a huge amount of critical points. She did a lot better when she was focusing more on spin, placement and depth variation to induce mistakes and weak balls to finish rather than outright trying to hit the ball past Wang Yidi (imo doesn't work at all - Wang Yidi is simply too strong in countering fast balls)

Still her lack of topspin on the FH is a huge liability - if those smashes have more topspin on them they would likely have landed and those crucial mistakes would have been won by her rather than her opponent.

Filus has to play away from the table due to the topspin quality in the men's game, while Batra plays close table for the most part as she can suppress the incoming ball's quality in the women's game. I suspect someone like Sun Yingsha who hits really hard to give her a very bad time. Not sure why Chen Xingtong and Hayata all played so conservative against her, especially Hayata who usually has so much power in her disposal.

I think the fact that Ito, who usually beats pips players with ease, won with a hard fought 4-2, is something you are not accounting for.  I don't doubt good players can beat Batra, but I don't think anyone played conservatively vs Batra, I think her consistency genuinely surprised everyone and wore them down over time, her forehand was definitely improved and put pressure on the opponents more, but even more impressive to me, her offensive twiddling on the backhand and the defensive twiddling on the forehand was a different level.  But more than anything else, I would put the improvement on her forehand as when she took control of the rally, her power made it very hard to switch and she countered extremely well (I wouldn't be surprised if she is practicing with some of the men's team).   She could very well have beaten all the opponents she beat with higher margins, Chen Xingtong, Hayata and Chen Szu Yu 4-1, it is easy to miss this.

It will be interesting to see where she goes from here, He Zhuoja now has renewed importance on the CNT, they might even make her start using Dtecs lol.

Harimoto plugged most of the holes in his game, he is capable of playing close table, mid distance and far distance on both BH and FH with plenty of power now... along with an amazing short game I think he's becoming increasingly hard to beat (if he doesnt mess up his serve receive against weird servers)

That only happens when he plays someone who let HT do that strokes. 80% of his game are BH punches.

I'm quite impressed that someone with 80% BH punches recently beat an in-form WCQ and FZD.

Dude when he was Top 10 he lost to dyjas and jorgic and some romanian guy and  you can add points to get #2 without even proving you can beat under Top10 players.
I back my opinion on how  HT performs  in worlds and OG.
If being Top 10 would be HT real ranking he would have played by this time a semifinal in a wttt or OG.

Strictly speaking, 佐藤博治/SATOH Hiroji was the first-ever WR1 player from Japan in 1952 (1952/9/1). 小野誠治/ONO Seiji is the last WR1 player from Japan in 1979/7 and 1980/7. 大川とみ/OKAWA Tomi (incorrectly as OKAWA Tomie in the English source) is the first-ever WR1 female player from Japan in 1956 (1957/1/23). 小和田敏子/KOWADA Toshiko is the last WR1 female player from Japan in 1969 and 1970 (incorrectly as KOWADA Koshiko in 1970 in the English source). Back then, World Champion = WR1.

Ito (WR2, 2020/4) and now Harimoto (WR2, 2022/11) are the closest to becoming WR1 players from Japan after the computerized World Rankings started in 1991/10.

Your question is nonsense because better is not the same as high ranked. WCQ is better. Now that WR matters for you  Tell me.
Why HT has better ranking than WCQ if WCQ has defeated  HT more times?
