Ah, thank you!

So LSW + WCQ have 1004 + 117 points, which makes them seeded above Barbora & Lubomir (1085 points).  Impressive!

Will they use similar seeding process for Olympics too?

ZYL's style stands no chance against Ito. The good think is that she fought back at least.

Isnt boll playing with tenergy 09C?
This was the best I've seen Timo play all year.  It's not a matter of playing "with the best", for this one week anyway, he was as good as the best.

Last winter he was using T09C as a test, but I'm not sure if he's still using it.  When he did an interview with Table Tennis Daily, he talked about T05Hard on the FH.  Dignic is only for his backhand.

I'm also curious about his shoes.  Butterfly sells a "Timo Boll shoe", the Lezoline TB, and in the past that's what Timo has worn.  But this week he was wearing something else.

It was an amazing week for Timo.  Destroying PItchford and beating Ovtcharov decisively (in recent years, Dima is usually favored between them).  I hope he keeps playing this well.

It is amazing that Timo is able to play at that level that late in age.

He had 3 match points total though...FZD saves the 1st one like a boss! Timo misses a very important bh on the 2nd one, why? this is where the difference between greatness and greatness+ is. Greatness+ delivers when it matters and greatness misses the + at possibly the most critical moment of the match. Then he misses an important bh again on the 3rd one. What??? come on! we don't rush and miss on those points after 20 years a career at the highest level, that was just plain disappointing.

To me, FZD played like the true #1 in the world, the best player ever mentally and technically at the same time, at the right time, when it was really important that he raised himself to a very difficult challenge.

IMO, credit to Timo to offer his best level ever but above all, congratulations to the man of the day Fan Zhendong who showed nerves of steel and is assuming more and more his role of leading the pack. He is getting bigger as we speak and he is slowly en route to peaking at the right time next year.

Greatness alive, Fan Zhendong! thanks for the show; and thank you Timo for being who you are, one of the greatest for more than 20 years in a row!

Presumption: China considers Mima Ito the top threat on the women's side.

If that is so, does this mean they can't risk having ZYL on the Olympic team, and this ends any hope she had?

No way ZYL can be selected to play singles in olympics.
Back-to-back losses to Ito Mima is just too much - CNT will not select her.

Pretty much.  She was in a very critical position today and messed up.  I heard thru the grapevine that the Chinese ambassador was supposed to present the winner's trophy to the lady singles champ, just as he did for the gentlemen.  She botched up her chance at redemption.

In a match like this, to be honest, as a (semi-)first team member, were she still one, her coach should have been Li Sun, head coach of the women's team, so I think she was done before this match, this match just closes her door in the eyes of the public as well.  That she didn't play the World Team Cup was already a massive signal of a demotion of sorts, there is no other reason she should remain behind Wang Manyu AND Sun Yingsha.  One or the other but not both.  After all, the men's team had enough room to take Ma Long and not seriously play him.

I feel for her.  Sandiway nailed it when he felt that her loss in 2017 to Ding Ning in the WTTC finals was the end because of the upcoming youngsters. I love a good redemption story so I wish her the best, but it will be hard.  She was probably one of those people who was fairly sure she would be World Champion someday and she has had almost everything taken from her.  Where she will go from here will be unclear.  Her topspin defense style with variation doesn't work vs Ito.
I like putting heavy topspin on the ball...

I wonder why everyone looks horribly unbalanced and inconsistent when playing against Ma Long, and the same players actually look really good when playing against Fan Zhendong (even if they ultimately lose)...

Ito Mima's record against CNT players:  (From ITTF Head-to-Head.)

Chen Meng - they played 2 times, CM won both. (The only player who has not lost to Ito Mima. But they played only twice.)
Liu Shiwen - they played 3 times, LSW won the very first encounter, Ito won the most recent 2 matches.
Sun Yingsha - they played 6 times, Ito won 2 and SYS won 4. SYS won the most recent 2 matches.
Wang Manyu - they played 10 times, Ito won 2 and WMY won 8. Ito won the most recent match.
Ding Ning - They played 13 times, DN won 10 and Ito won 3. (when looking at the most recent 4 matches they take turns to win.  DN won the most recent match.

*** Ito Mima is a real threat to Chinese women players in the upcoming Olympics. ***

It seems that Chen Meng and Sun Yingsha are the 2 CNT players who have much better odds playing against Ito Mima.

It is has to intimidating & mentally so draining to play Chinese after Chinese.
In 1989 Jorgen Persson finally broke thru beating 3 Chinese to get to the finals
Seems like bigger mental block
All thru 80's Chinese kept beating the Swedes over & over till the end of the decade before the Swedes finally overcame in 1989 & won 91 & 93 as well but sweetest has to be the 2000 win

The parallel between Sweden yesterday and Japan today is so valid, the Japanese are in the same position, climbing the Chinese mountain with the growing confidence of a #2 knowing deep that they can be #1. It's coming. Korea might eat Japan's lunch on the finish line though; and who knows what Germany is capable of with Timo, Dima and Fanziska all on a roll at the same time? next year will be such a party!

ZYL was out for consideration for 2020 Olympics a long time ago. The loss to Ito last year in the Sweden open totally destroyed her future as the key CNT player.

It is not just the loss, but the spirit that probably let the coaches down. So many players have lost to Ito, but CNT don't really give up on them. But the way ZYL played last year against Ito, probably some CNT coaches will consider it a shame to CNT team.

I think ZYL will still play at CNT, but just like Zhou YU, Yan An on the men's side. She will probably not be picked for any big team event again. That is a real pity for an once promising player.

Will Zhang Yining beat against Ito if she is still playing right now? ZYL is somehow copying ZYN's style.

So did Ding Ning.  But you have to evolve.  The plastic ball doesn't reward spin and arc.

Compare Zhang Yining with Ito Mima? (At this moment.)

Ito Mima is a great player, but her achievement (so far) is nowhere near what Zhang Yining achieved.

Yeah, with Ito sticking around for years to come, ZYL won't even get a chance in the NEXT Olympics after 2020. Dead

Ito Mima has been quite consistent in the recent open events, semi, final... all the time. And she still develops more weapons for her arsenal. Not sure why china did not let SYS CM and WMY play the Austrian Open. These three are the current CNT players that have the highest chance against Ito.

Ito's style is so unique. It would be a good idea to let those young CNT players to play with her as often as possible.

CNT must call for all  short pips players to prepare players to cope  ito
