I've been to this place twice. Not for training though, but for sightseeing. I used to study for a little while in Shijiazhuang (just about an hour drive from the place). If anyone is thinking about going and afraid about finding english-speaking person or what not, I still have a few friends in the city. I have chinese friends who could speak english fairly well, a couple from spains who are teaching in the province university and also a couple from canada who are working as admin in the same university.
Anyone who has seen the movie "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" will notice at the end of the movie where the main actress jumped off the cliff/bridge, that place is also very near there so if you go for training, you could also go to this place. Preferably on cloudy day for better effects as in the movie. |

Yeah. I was in shijiazhuang for about a year and a half and visited several tourism places. I've even visited the temple across your training center. =)

I went to this training centre for a month...a few things
1) If you bargain, you can have training and rooms for 35 dollars a day. At least we could.
2) If you do not speak chinese, it is much more difficult, though not impossible. If you speak chinese, you get along better with the coaches and they can coach you better. The translators speak some english, but they are not good. On the other hand, if you are white, it is amazing to go there cuz your the only one...in the whole city. so there is always that experience aspect of it.
3) Either be good, or be ready to play with REALLY young kids. 2000 - 2100 (American) I'd say are the 12 - 13 year olds, mostly. So...yeah. Unless your above 2600 (american), there will always be people at your level.
4) the food sucks. find someone who knows restaurants around there and
go out for dinner. it costs about 8 bucks for a five course meal with drinks for 3 people. Worth it.
5) Every person gets their own room. Insane amounts of air conditioning in there, although very little in the actual training centres. you get plenty of free water.
6) bring flip flops. the shower drain is part of the floor of the washroom, so yeah...get flip flops.
7) Bargain....almost anything, people are willing to bargain on, so always give it a try.
