I can't imagine how he can switch between jpen and cjen without any major set back. I would like to see a few more players with traditional cpen (with or without rpb) playing at top level. Xu Hui is another one.

he was using cpen from the start until ryu came up and the china national team asked him to switch to jpen just to act as a substitute ryu and train with the top players.

he was origially chinese penhold and a great younger player. but then china had too many good penhold players, so they made him and national team training partner. He was made to be a ryu clone when ryu was olympic champ. now ryu is no longer a threat he is back to using traditional chinese PH, which he used originally. China sent alot of the older national team member out to Europe to make so $$ before they retire.

Any idea how far he went (in terms of performance and world rankings) whilst on JPEN? How was this compared to when he switched back to CPEN?

At his best he used jpen. He has beaten almost all in the chinese trials for the 2007 WTTC. His game has dropped off a lot as of late.

if wjj did that because ryu wasnt a threat then he would have turned to cepn time ago , he did due to the glue ban that killed jpens

he's definitely a 2nd line player because the team did not put him in the international spot light.

On the video uploaded on youtube, it says (at the tail end), wjj has moved on to the US. Is he still actively playing and competing in the US? How has he been performing? Anyone.... any idea?

oh oh that is so lame didnt you watch the video yet? i saw quite alot of third ball attacks you know esp against the WLQ you mentioned. i am a super jpen fan but i never really thought wang jian jun was hot from the start?

wjj played for sichuan in the super league with ryu in the past. seeing him being a cpen convert to jpen ryu was quite good friends with him and gave him a bty rsm blade before. these are facts. and i would think a more appropriate use of the word lame would be for you.

TTcrawsaive do you happen to have the link to the Wang Jian Jun vs. vs. Liu Yang 2005 Super League match used in the video? That match looks really good and I always love it when the crowd is really fired up.

It's true that Wang was ordered to change to J-pen. CCTV have a program about the offstage hero. LGL says that before he can loop with his backhand welly but that is so many good player in the chinese national teams. If he do not change to J-pen, probably we won't know his nameConfused
