Because his forehand is hard as hell!

If he is in good form and his forehand works he is very hard to stop. But if it doesn't work he has no weapon.

Club manager Norbert Mai is convinced of the situation: "Timo Boll will definitely be fit on Friday and he alone is already our guarantee for advancing. After his gastroenteritis which caused him to be bedridden for 4 days he had some problems in Eslvs. But now he's healthy again and will definitely show his class."

Lundqvist has had some injuries and surgery last year. When he is fit, as you can see, he can be a terror.

On the other hand, you have to take Timo's illness into account. Under normal circumstances, he would beat the Swede.

...and the rematch I hope Samsonov vs. Lundquist again tonight ! :) I Think Charloi will lose and out...but Where was Li Ching instead of Saive or Smirnov ? I think they did not take those matches too seriously...

CHARLEROI DISASTER: SAIVE HEAVY SHOCKED

by ETTU web team

10/01/2007 - Two days after the bankruptcy Jean-Michel Saive is still shocked. "Nobody could expect this", the Belgian table tennis icon says about the 0-3 distaster of Royal Villette Charleroi against TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen, which was more than one small gaffe. It is the biggest sensation in the ECL history in which Charleroi has won the competition four times and reached the final six times in a row.
Helmut Hampl, trainer of titleholder TTV Gnnern, had also been sure before the first service in this season: "There will not be a third edition of the finals Gnnern against Charleroi. If we reach the semi-final again we must play against Charleroi."
The performances of the Belgians in the qualifying round seemed to confirm Hampl. La Villette controlled the group once more and without any defeat. The 3-1 in the first leg against TTC Zugbrcke Grenzau, as second in the German Bundesliga three places before Ochsenhausen, was the only match Charleroi wasnt able to win 3-0. And then this: 0-3 in upper Swabian! At the moment the odds predict a semi-final Ochsenhausen against Gnnern which won 3-0 against TTC Eslvs in Sweden.
For Charleroi the evil took its run when Saive awarded a match point in the prelude singles and lost the match against Adrian Crisan. "Certainly I could have won the match but this defeat was no shock for us because the chances were 50:50", Jean-Mi explains. "We all thought that Vladi would compensate my defeat immediately. But then he leads 6-2 in the first, 6-2 in the second and even 9-2 in the third set - and looses all three sets. That was the big shock!"
The hussar's prank of Swede Jens Lundquist against Samsonov threw the favourite from the road. Afterwards Lundquists compatriot Pr Gerell preserved everything clearly by beating the Ochsenhausens former star Alexei Smirnov 3-1. "Ochsenhausen was in the play drunkenness, it was very difficult for Alex ", Saive points understanding for his Russian team colleague.
The bankruptcy made the semi-final to move in wide distance for the record winner. Beside the 0-3 defeat an unfavourable set relation of 3:9 stands to books and may be considered as a virtual point for Ochsenhausen, too. This signifies: To get further without doubt Charleroi must win 3-0 and may lose only two sets, reverse four sets give Ochsenhausen the guarantee to jump into the next round. With 3:0 and 9:3 the balls would be counted.
Nevertheless Johansson does not imagine his team in the purpose yet. "In Charleroi 6000 to 7000 fans will support their team, everything is possible there. Therefore, I see the chances with 50-50 ", the TTF trainer explains what does not surprise Saive: "This is normal. He wants to avoid that the pressure on his team becomes too big. With 9:5 or 9:6 sets we would have had a realistic chance, but thus the chances stand 10:90."
However, this does not mean that the Belgians have resigned already. "Villette needs you", one can read on the clubs homepage (www.villette.be). "On Friday an explosive meeting waits for you in the Spiridoume. Come and support Villette." Saive also knows: "We need our spectators more than ever to create a miracle."
Ochsenhausen, fifth in the Bundesliga, has far hit the gate in the direction of the semi-final and with it also the best chances to qualify prematurely for the next season in the ECL because all semi finalists secure a place. It seems as if an appraisal will prove to be true Johansson already had delivered before the start of the final phase: "Maybe it is easier for us to qualify for the semi-final in the Champions League in this season than for the play offs in the Bundesliga."

COUNTER-ORDER: CHARLEROI TO SEMIFINALS!
12/01/2007 - Men's ECL first knockout round started to give its verdicts. Miracles may happen sometimes: the glorious La Villette Charleroi offered an extraordinary performance to avoid an anticipated farewell. The Belgian club, never missing the ECL final from 2000 onwards, relauches its challenge instead of concluding the course two stops earlier. Liebherr Ochsenhausen was the astonishing victim of this flap of the wings: after the huge 3:0 win last Friday, the Germans felt confident to achieve at least one point in the prestigious Spiroudome, but they understimated the enormous Charleroi pride.
The final 3:0 success switched on the "green light" to Charleroi towards the semi-finals, although it was the same inverted score than the leg1. The Belgian turned out as the team with the better aggregate score in points (231-216) as the games calculation was equal.
Vladi Samsonov suffered to bend Lundqvist (3:2) but his fighting spirit gave the team-mate Li Ching the enthousiasm to continue beating Mazunov 3:1.
The third match was throwing the Belgian fans into raptures: their idol and icon Jean Michel Saive well knew he had to win 3:0 with no possibilities to waste any single ball. The experienced Jean-Mi faced this huge responsibility with the character of the real top-champion to psicologically "destroy" Crisan allowing him just 19 point in total!
ECL curtain also falls for Eslovs AI and Pontoise Cergy. The Parisian club confirmed all its pride during the hopeless Spanish mission: in spite of the last week sharp defeat, they tried to make the match harder. Chen Hi, Zoran Primorac and Roberto Gardos won all three fighted matches, but the French team leave was really to admire.
Once more Eslovs players showed what they are capable of: after the 3:0 home defeat vs. Gonnern, the second leg should have been a one-way match, while the ECL reigning champions, as they got the decisive point thanks to Timo Boll in the first match, have to work hardly to overwhelm the Swedish team won over by Robert Svensson who took away Slobodan Grujic a significant point to conclude this first, impressive Eslovs' ECL participation.
Tomorrow ECL quarter-finals will complete the program with the last match: Niederosterreich is the clear favourite against Zugbruecke Grenzau, after its victory in Germany in the first leg match: the winner will face Cajagranada, while Charleroi and Gonnern will repeat the duel of the last two ECL finals, both won by the German club. This time just one out of two will continue to dream.
