I understand for some of the best posters that it isn't fun providing interesting content on the forum unless you can argue and talk shit to each other.  But that is really tedious and boring for those of us who only want the TT content.

Why can't you insult each other and argue in PMs?  Take it outside, in effect?

If you understand the psychology of a performative poster, you will see that doesn't really make sense.  Audience matters.

LOL, I wanted them to have to say it, but you said it for them.

Again, I have no problem with name-calling if it pushes the discussion forward, which I've been subjected to for years. Nextlevel's case, however, is different. Unlike I, jackwong23, tom, et al., who are peers, you're not. You're in a position of power. At your discretion, you could wield the ban hammer to stop other members. Where were the other mods to rein you in? Is it right to assume the mods won't act unless someone hits that report button? If true, I'll no longer refrain from hitting that button in the future. Be warned. How is that any different from passive-aggression? How does that improve the sense of community if that's how we operate when divided?

Baal has admitted on multiple occasions that he spends more time on his other hobby(and likes to quote "harden the *bleep* up"). Is he even fit to serve as mod, for lack of motivation? Should he not keep himself to "For Sale" as he's not even listed under "General"? Should I just quote "harden the *bleep* up"?

I fixed the ailing forum once without any remuneration. Can't wait to see those who hit that report button to contribute to MyTT in a more concrete way.

Hi zeio,

In America, what you consider "power", we consider a form of "service".  I can't remember having the discretion (which is different from the ability) to ban or punish anyone but maybe you have examples of when I have done stuff.  I have the ability to ban people, but I always pretty much have to justify my decisions to anyone if asked.  It is like saying that I have the discretion to stab people which makes no sense to me.  Maybe you see it as "power", and maybe you want that power, tell stiltt that you want the "power", that you are convinced that at least two of the current moderators are not getting the job done.

You can lodge a formal complaint with stiltt/alexli if you feel that what I did was egregious enough.  I think most moderators have similar judgment but I will speak for myself.  I am disinclined to get between two posters interacting with each other unless I feel that they have not developed a rapport with each other.  Moreover, in the absence of a formal report, people can interpret my decisions as being grounded in favoritism, so I tend to avoid taking action in those circumstances where I have interacted with the posters.  In any case, everything is a judgment call, never been black or white to me unless you get sufficient mass behind a certain view.  That is partly why reporting is helpful.

Ultimately, these things come down to ownership vision, and we as moderators just execute on it as best we can. If you want to change the vision, sell the admins (alexli, stiltt) on your vision.  they may be more receptive than you think.

The whole point of a forum is to argue.  Just try to argue about TT, any bit of minutiae you want, and try to make at least a small effort to not derail the threads by making it excessively personal or going hundreds of miles off topic.  Because the other members really don't enjoy scrolling through endless streams of some of this angst.

The only person I've banned in a long time is the many carnations of Sjan.

And I'm not wanting to ban any of you guys.  Just try to understand that a ping pong forum is not life or death.

Overall, I think most members in the forum are polite and considerate. A couple might have a little bigger "ego" than the rest, but still not out of the line.  Don't see that the mod needs to do anything here.

The same kind of movie can be done in any country and therefore all the countries would be on the verge of collapse? I guess "on the verge" is relative. On the geological scale, a country has collapsed very shortly after it came to be.

Bump. Imagine the following players making the podium and the announcer pronounces "Lily Zhang from Canada!" or "Alexis/Felix Lebrun from Monaco!" Badminton Danmark and BWF are getting grilled as of this moment because of that.

Watanabe looks back on WTTC Finals 2022:
Hayata started feeling pain in her playing arm in the match against Uzbekistan;
He expected France(because of Yuan Jia Nan) instead of Slovakia in the QF;
Kihara was designated as the 3rd singles player, with Nagasaki as backup;
Hayata wanted to play in the final and was in the lineup the day before, but he didn't want to aggravate the injury and benched her;
They were stimulated by Harimoto and wanted to keep it going but CNT was impeccable;
With Hayata out, Ito told him "leave it to me. Let's do it." Despite being visibly disturbed by the unforced errors in the group, she got used to the ball and went into the final with confidence;
Even though Ito didn't play bad against WMY, she still couldn't win, therefore something must change, or something must be added;
In response to Konno[interviewer] citing Mizutani's comment that service and receive are the keys, that Ito uses reverse spin only when serving and should add gyro spin and pendulum spin, and should anticipate long serve when receiving, Watanabe says SYS also loses playing that way;
He expects CM to play Paris 2024 because she is treated as the trump card here;
On world class women's table tennis, Europe is so lonely. It feels to have always been in a slump. Unlike WTT, WTTC is an authoritative tournament. Other than China and Japan, perhaps the rest of the world is decreasing in level;
On Kihara and Nagasaki experiencing WTTC, Watanabe says it reaffirms that WTTC is a tournament that carries a lot of weight, unlike WTT individual events. He hopes the two of them can make good use of the invaluable experience gained from playing against China in the final next time. He thinks more Miwa Harimoto will appear in Japan in the foreseeable future, but it is important to experience the world in order to keep the players uninterrupted. He stresses that "defeat China" must be realized.

Came across this interview with Claudia Herweg months later.

https://www.butterfly-global.com/en/column/detail/2211CH01.html
Quote — Congratulations on the achievements at the 2022 World Team Championships in Chengdu, a silver medal for men and bronze for women. Please share your thoughts on the success of the German team.

Claudia Herweg (hereinafter referred as CH) I am very happy with the results.
I expected the third place for the women’s team. We had a lot of options in the sense of playing style; we had Ying (Han Ying), a defender, Nana (Shan Xiaona), a short-pimple penhold player and Nina (Nina Mittelham), a topspin player, for example. I thought it would be very difficult to beat us, except for China, Japan and Hong Kong.
They competed against Japan at the semifinals and Ying was beaten by Mima Ito. She was too strong.
For the men’s team, I thought it would be difficult to achieve a medal as Dang (Dang Qiu) was in the 9th, Bene (Benedikt Duda) was 36th and Kay (Kay Stumper) was 103rd in the world ranking (as of the 39th week of 2022). I also had some worries in their work as a team as they are very young. We are very proud of the results overall.

...

— Based on the success of the German men’s team achieving silver this time, is there any possibility that you will focus in the team selection on having the young players experience at the future World Team Championships?

CH I don’t think we will do such a selection in the future.
I don’t think we should take this event as a model; it was the event held in China in the middle of pandemic. We would have sent Timo, Dima and Patrick if the event had been held under the normal conditions. Therefore, we would like to select the best five German players for the next event.
I think there is no national team member in Japan who is over thirty years old now, but in Germany, Timo is 42 years old and Dima is 34; I think we will have to manage their condition, including injuries and physical conditions, in order for them to continue to compete actively.

...

— Let us ask you about another problem. This is not a problem particular in Germany; we have many male star players like Timo, but it is difficult to generate female stars. Do you have any idea to boost the female field in table tennis?

CH I think the Japan women’s team members, who competed against China, are heroines when they are back in Japan, but in Germany the women’s team do not attract attention compared to men’s team. I feel there are many things to be done in this regard. We need to think about not only Germany but also Europe. All in all, our target to beat China will remain unchanged, but there is a very long way to go for the women.
This is just an idea, but I think fans are interested not only in the athletic aspect but also in their private elements. Something about their hobbies and their fashion should be presented more and more so that we can reach out to the emotions of the audience.
I think the Japanese women’s team could connect with fans’ emotions because they competed against China at the final. I take it as our big obligation to present players attractively. There is a German female player, Annet Kaufmann, who is tall and good-looking. She showed a significant presence in Munich at the European Championships. I think it is important to present the personality and allurement of players. The same thing can be said to male players, not only females.

In the football industry, players such as Cristiano Ronaldo makes a lot of efforts to show himself very fascinating. I think there are many wonderful players in the table tennis world as well; I think Dang, for example, has the potential to be a star for his extraordinary playing style, his way of thinking and his performance. However, we will have to improve the presentation on the social media, we have a lot to do in this field in Germany. I hope we can cooperate with Butterfly to raise the industry.
It was good to exchange ideas with you online. Thank you.

...

Table Tennis Report refrained from on-site coverage at the World Championships for the first time since its creation in 1957 (including the period after moving to the web publication in 2018). There were many reasons for the decision, but the absence on site left us great scars. In a similar manner there were many players who decided not to attend the event for several reasons. Among them, especially, the German Table Tennis Association made a radical decision to attend the event without the top three players, it made us want to ask the real truth behind such a decision.
I hope the World Team Championships held once every two years will remain the most prestigious event to decide the strongest team in the world. We watched some nail-biting fierce battles in Chengdu, some of which were fiercer than in the past. Therefore, we do not think the authority of the event was damaged even though some of the top players had cancelled their attendance. However, that does not sweep away the non-attendance of the players who should have been there. Such regulations should be reviewed if the lack of the points awarded to the singles ranking for the wins in the team event contributed to the decision of not attending the championships as Ms. Herweg mentioned.
Luckily, we can confirm the fact that Ms. Herweg, eventually the German Table Tennis Association, has the same thoughts.
The decision is up to the players eventually, but we sincerely hope the World Team Championships will remain the best stage for the players where they are honoured to perform.
