The Olympics will likely take place as planned in a month. Sound very unrealSmile

Link for info and live stream???

Schedule and result:
https://olympics.com/tokyo-2020/olympic-games/en/results/table-tennis/olympic-schedule-and-results.htm

Tokyo time is 13 hours ahead of US EST time. So the first match will start at 8:00PM on this Friday.
The mixed double match will start at 10:15PM

The problem is how to watch the live stream in the US if one does not have tv cable (probably most folks do not have)

Are you talking about the Paralympics? The Olympics are less than 4 weeks away. TT events are scheduled for July 24-Aug 6.

It appears that all qualified top players will play. Hopefully the live stream will be free (usually Olympics games are not..)

With only two weeks away, I believe the Olympics will not be cancelled or postponed this time.

A lot of athletes are already in Tokyo, no way they will cancel it at this point.
But for athletes it must be the worst games ever, no public at all during competitons.

CHEERS FOR TIMO BOLL.
Good to see Timo BOll keeps his hands away from the table top inbitween rallies. Untill recently, he used to perform this nasty unhealthy gesture for so many times to disgust me badly. So is Ma Long, a vulgar one to sweep his hands over the table so often times, for no good reason.

Just read the news said that according to LGL, the TT court area is reduced quite a bit, like 30% compared to that in events like WTTC. If that is true, it is definitely bad news to players like XX

Arena size is non-standard at Tokyo 2020+1?

6mx11m Tokyo 2020+1
vs 7x14 non-final
vs 8x16 final

JOC: How can we beat China in doubles?
JNT: Make the arena smaller.

I found several blocks of air time for TT on my cable channels. Most likely won't be live and, for us hard-cores, we may know the results by the time these shows air.

Here's what I found through next Monday, all times Eastern US.
Sat 11:30a - 1:00p, NBCSN
Sat 5:15p - 6:00p, USA
Sat/Sun 12:15a - 1:00a, CNBC
Sun 11:15a - 12:15p, NBCSN
Sun 3:30p - 4:30p, NBCSN
Mon 12:00 - 1:15p, USA

There seems to be 1 or 2 showings each day thereafter.
Trying to develop a fast short serve.

If they can reduce the court area, they can definitely reduce the number of live streamed tables as well.

Pavel Sirucek tested positive for Covid-19. David Powell advances to Round 2.

"Pavel (Sirucek) will be marked as Did Not Start (DNS) in the table tennis competition, in accordance with the Tokyo 2020 Sport-Specific Regulations. We wish him a speedy recovery," added the statement.

The 28-year-old male player, who's rated the 52nd in the latest world rankings, had qualified for the Olympic table tennis men's singles event through the European qualification.

This is going to be a strange Olympics. Now we understand why the Chinese TT team at the airport were wearing masks AND goggles.

I am more worried about the spread of the virus during/after the Olympics. Athletes could bring the virus to Japan and take the virus to every corner on earth. We're taking a huge health risk for financial reasons.

On the first day of action Sweden beat USA 3-0 in women's soccer. Will the score be the same in men's table tennis?

While I believe Jha can win one game or more if he's on point, I don't believe Kumar or Zhou Xin (Unless he's gotten better since 2010 when he dabbled in the Swedish elite league) will take a third victory.

Personally I believe coach Jörgen Persson will have Källberg at nr 1, Falck at 2 and Karlsson playing as the third.

Wasn't picked (bummer), but I was hoping he would have atleast been the reserve.

Methinks he is the Swedish Men's National Champion.

Thanks.

Besides the limited coverage on TV, is there going to be any live-streaming of these games anywhere?

nbcolympics.com gives you 30 minutes free, then you need to sign in thru cable provider (or Sling TV).  You can sign up for Sling TV ($10 1st month) plus Olympics channel (+$11): https://thestreamable.com/news/can-you-stream-the-2020-tokyo-olympics-with-sling-tv

Yes, but that is still limited coverage. I was looking for a continuous coverage for as long as there are matches (sort of like an important ITTF tournament).

At almost 20 years old, he could have been ready to play for his country in the singles event. I am not sure about what happened, he had so much raw talent and the killer instinct. I can't talk much about him because I did not follow him closely enough but I can only remember my admiration on his flat hits off the bounce and at the same time his systemic rushing making him look like a difficult to trust loose cannon. It's really too bad.

However the official reason is he is not ready after surgery:

His knee has been in terrible condition most of his life. He finished his second surgery last October and got back for real in the National Champs and Euros. He might have pushed too hard and had to pull out of EYC because of it. Now he is working on more rehab. As much as I love watching his playstyle he isn't ready to play OG singles ahead of either Falck, Källberg or Karlsson at this point even if he was at 100%.
