Many of you will remember that for a long time we had a policy here whereby new members had to make a first post before being approved. We wanted people to post the setup they play with.  This was a way to reduce spam.  At a point we wondered if it was reducing membership and activity on the forum (as some new members were kept waiting awhile before they were approved).  So we opened things up.

Many of you who have been diligent about reporting spam, lately on a daily basis.   It reached a breaking point (for me anyway) when I was spending a portion of every morning deleting the spambots that accumulated while I slept.

Bottom line is that we have returned to that earlier policy in hopes that you won't have to see it infesting our forum.

This is also a bit of work for the mods, who have to keep up on new members and approving the ones who are legit.  That seems to me to be a small price to pay for thwarting the spambots.

Hey, mods.  Thanks for the change.  I'm sorry it still stays in the realm of more work for you guys.  I was hoping there'd be some sort of programme for weeding out the bots - like Captcha - which would have reduced your work and kept the nonsense at bay.  Anyhow, thanks for all the unseen and unheralded work you guys are doing.

Web Wiz has a CAPTCHA module available for free. It should be a cinch to integrate with the forum software.

Have the mods or Alex considered that option?
