   Divisions 1 and 3 are on Wednesday,  Division 2 on Monday.  The league starts around the 3rd or 4th week of October.   New players have to try out. The try-outs are usually 1 week to 10 days before the first week of  play.  Division 1 players are  typically 1900 level and higher, division 2 between 1200-1900,  division 3 lower than 1200 level.

  You can try out for the division you think you have a realistic chance of making.   You can even try out for all 3 divisions( though of course play only in one division) , if I'm not mistaken, but check with the SKTTC officials first.

   Those rating figures are 'benchmarks' to give you an idea of the level of play in the different divisions.   There are always going to be exceptions, as  far as individual ratings go, and the actual standard of play of certain players.  For instance, last year there were probably 2 or 3 players in division 3 who were playing well enough in the season, to be in division 2. But circumstances kept them where they were. Also, some players, particularly the younger ones, can improve spectacularly as the season progresses, so that they may be playing 2 divisions lower than where they should be, as happened in the season before last.

  If the number of players in the "OPEN" category remains constant at 7( which it probably won't, but let's assume) an alternative to the general 3-4 player small round robin, followed by single elimination, would be to have a large RR of all the 7 players at once.  Everyone plays six matches. The winner is the player with the best record.  This set-up is rarely seen in Ontario, and never in sanctioned tournaments. Perhaps it's time to consider giving it a try?  The format has been successful in Erie, USA and other American sanctioned tournaments.
