I read an interesting article in the Killerspin magazine - something new to me. I was under the impression that once rubber is glued to a paddle, that is it. The article in the magazine says, the effect of the glue will go away after few matches. Does this mean we have to glue the rubber (removing and gluing again) quite often?

How do you guys glue the rubber?

This is called "speed gluing". It adds extra speed and spin to your rubber and blade when you use "speed glue" to apply the rubber to the blade.

This effect is caused by solvents in the glue that generally disipate after a few hours of play. To get the advantage of speed glue you must reglue before every match you play.

Thanks for the help.

I read the article. The article refers to put the glue on rubber, and then on the paddle and glue them together. In my paddle, I have some sponge below the rubber. Do I have to peel the toplayer rubber (red or blue rubber) from the sponge, and glue them also?

No! You want to pull the sponge and topsheet off the wood racket as a single unit.

Then you only add speed glue to the sponge. Put a little glue on the wood racket and let it tack dry. Put the rubber back on the racket once the sponge starts to dome up a little. You might need to add a few coats more to the sponge to get a good dome.

After that use a cooking pin to roll the rubber on to the racket and put a couple books on top of the bubber once on the blade. Keep the books on top of the rubber and racket for about 5-10 min so that the rubber seals back to the blade and does not peel up.

You know that you've got the speed glue effect best when you hear a big popping sound when you hit the ball. It sometimes will sound corkey, sometimes it sounds like you broke the ball when you hit it with a loud snapping sound.
