Yes and no. Thicker is faster but I think that with pips of any length on the BACKHAND, going past 1.8mm isn't necessary. I would say 2.0 or thicker is for pips on the forehand as the forehand penetrates more. This is entirely subjective though and also depends on your level. There are much higher level players than me that maybe would benefit with thicker pips on the backhand but for the majority of players even at a high level using pips on the backhand offensively, 1.7-1.9 is a really nice thickness that combines good speed with noticeable pip effect and disturbance.

Ahhh makes sense. Sounds like I will stick to 1.8mm then as i felt its the perfect balance. I tried 2mm before but felt kinda spongy and 1.5mm was too slow. I understand that in the US Shao Yu uses short pips bh, would u happen to know what thickness he uses on bh?

He uses Stiga Clippa 2.0mm
Blade - Xiom 36.5 ALX FL
Forehand - Xiom Omega V Asia 2.0mm
Backhand - Victas Curl P5V with Der Materialspezialist Firestorm Soft/Outkill 1.8mm sponge

Is 101 way more difficult to handle than 103?
[/QUOTE]

Yes it is more difficult to use. 103 is a pip made between 101 and 102. Therefore, IMO, it is a pip for someone to determine their style of play.

A lot more dificult? I m planing to use for FH.Have you tried to soft loop serves with 101?

I personally wouldn't use it on the FH because:
- It is vertical alignment
- It isn't a very spinny pip like 102 or joola express
- FH short pips need a spin type pip for consistency and the way a FH is hit with these kinds of pips still produces good sink

I tried soft loops off serves or I call it "rolls" and its not bad but the spin type of pips are a lot better and faster.

I have used 103 on FH and blowfish +  too  with good results but I want to increase sink and wonder if it will work with 101.

I have tried both 103 and blowfish+ and IMO 101 will have more sink than both of them. 101 pips r a bit longer and wider apart than the ones mentioned but also softer sponge.
