He definitely has more power as he overpowered his Japanese Opponent in the third round of Dusseldorf feeder tournament. Looks like he spent time lifting weights. Definitely looks more bulked up. Can check his latest match against the Japanese opponent here by scrolling back a bit

It was mostly the same against Rassenfosse as well in the first round, once you gave him a loose ball, the point was usually over. It's really different and impressive. Not sure whether it is just being used to Germany or a new playing level but even in rallies, the ball was coming back with interest!

Shinozuka is no pushover as he recently pushed Ma Long. He seemed overpowered against Kanak. Kanak seems to generate more power on his backhand in what seems like snap wrist movement and his forehand has more power too

It's also interesting that many Japanese and Taiwanese people in the comments are saying that Kanak is stronger because he doped (using Google translate). He may have been absentminded and not responsible enough in taking protocols seriously, but he has never doped. The bulking is from spending time in the gym. He was criticized for not having power, so he went on to rectify that. Now he is in Semi Finals where he plays a chopper tomorrow. His QF against Taiwanese opponent match below...just scroll back on the video

I didn't even recognize him! He has his hair cut so short now, and has bulked up so much he looks like a different player. He powered through Shinozuka without much trouble. I hope he learned his lesson from not taking the protocols seriously and won't repeat that again. I also hope you're right about never doping Vtomar.

His mother's name is Karuna Jain. Being a Jain, they are very strict about their diet and I doubt he took PED. He was lackadaisical about seriousness of the situation in my estimation.

Kanak's high toss serve is so impressive. It looks like Calderano's but is more dynamic with his array of deep serves. He looks like a top 10 player.

Good to hear it from you, I was scared to say it, but whether it is German home cooking or something else, his play has been on another planet. Hopefully he beats the Korean chopper so we can get to see him play one of the top Koreans on the final and we can get a better read on his full level, since both Koreans have also dominated feeders.

Probably to dry sweaty hands and habit. He won 3-0 against the chopper, but last game was crazy. Kanak lead 8-4, only to be down 10-9, before finally winning 16-14.

I think they allow it as long as he's not delaying the proceeding. He did it while the other guy was chasing ball etc. In his previous match the lady umpire stopped him as the opponent was ready to go. He also has an annoying habit of tugging the shirt on his left shoulder after every point.

First game was also crazy, even if not a large margin comeback. Closer match than the 3-0 score suggests.

It was kind of close but Kanak was in charge. He beat An JaeHyun in Houston so it will be a good test. An just won a Feeder and is looking for a 2nd one. Two young guns. Match coming up at 12:15 on youtube.

All in all, it seems he hasn't lost anything - some things look clearly better, but I think the match with An showed that the physical improvements may not necessarily win him more points against equally strong players, but the other matches made it clear those things will make it much harder for weaker players to compete with him.

Kanak has to be a little bit rusty. Once he settles in his future looks good.
Excellent wins over Shinozuka,Feng Yi-Hsin,Dangsoo and an improved An bodes well for the Olympics if he can qualify.

If he is still rusty that was downright scary. Those are all world class players and any of them except the chopper could have won the tournament on the right day.

The week before, in Ototec, Jha lost to Hugo Deschamps 2-3 in the round of 32. So this tournament was definitely an improvement.

It was really interesting to see Kanak play a couple of tournaments after the suspension.
He is a little rusty, but clearly getting better. His physicality is certainly much improved. Kanak is not the most fluid player I have ever seen, but he clearly has very good touch. Backhand is no longer a weakness. Serve is still somewhat weak for his level, but better than it used to be. Wide FH is a little weak, but is also better with improved physicality. Overall, he is playing a very complete game with nothing obvious for his opponents to exploit. Maybe the BH opener is not all that heavy, but it is placed well. Blocking game and defense to offense transition are very good. Once the match toughness kicks in properly, he will not give up any easy points at all. If the opponent has to work his ass off for every point, Kanak's future is looking good. ILya

An Jaehyun just went 2-2 with Wang Chuqin at the World Cup. Weird format- play only 4 games and add the points.
Kanak defeated An last week.

Not sure why people are making a big deal out of this in the wacky world of TT forums.
