After the Singapore one, the Saudi smash is the 2nd top tier event for which WTT could find a host.

Hopefully we get 4 in the same year soon enough.

The Saudi smash has its own site:

Thank you. Corrected.

So many big names will be there!

I really hope they find buyers for the last 2 Smashes to make it 4 of them every year. Singapore, Saudi... What country do you think should host the last 2 Smash events? I am so surprised China did not take one on when Liu Guoliang is part of the big wigs at WTT, mysteries of table tennis politics? I was hoping Germany would raise to the opportunity as well, wishful thinking.

To be honest, with everything going on with WTT, I don't think this is how the sport will grow.

The current setup is simply not financially viable for players; too many events they are supposed to attend, too little prize money, points expire so quickly that unless you play all the time your rank goes down.

Add to this the fact that WTT hasn't been paying players their prize money (maybe because sponsor contracts were subject to 4 grand smashes?) and I really can't see it working long term.

Places like Saudi Arabia are always happy to do a bit more sports washing but it is telling when these are the sort of places that are willing to host the biggest WTT events.

Yes, wait 'til Chongjin and Volgograd join the grand smash party!

You are spot on.

Some insight of players schedule for 2024 (Star Contender and up).

For the one's that don't know, there is automatic entry by WTT regulations and the players would need to withdraw themselves from these WTT events - of which failure to do so before the deadline will endure penalties. Withdrawal means you are not allowed to do any TT activity during the date of the tournament (ie, you can't withdraw to do other TT duties) or you will face penalties from WTT. This includes penalties that will hurt your world ranking.
This raises problems like players should just go there, loose quickly and go back to club duties for example.

Jan 3~5 WTT Finals Doha
Jan 8~13 WTT Star Contender Doha
Jan 23~28 WTT Star Contender Goa
Feb 16~25 WTTTC
Mar 7~17 Singapore Smash
Mar 27~31 WTT Champions Incheon
April 15~21 ITTF World Cup
May 1~11 Saudi Smash
May 30~ June 3 WTT Champions Chongqing
June 11~16 WTT Star Contender Ljubjana
July 2~7 WTT Star Contender Bangkok
July 26~ Aug 11 Paris Olympics Games
Sep 16~22 WTT Star Contender Lanzhou
Sep 26 ~ Oct 6 China Smash
Oct 22~27 WTT Champions Montpellier
Nov 3~10 WTT Champions Frankfurt
Nov 20~24 WTT Finals Fukuoka
Dec TBA Mixed Team World Cup

This is a total of 18 events in 12 months.
Namely, WTT 2 x finals, 3 x smash, 4 x champion, 5 x star contender
ITTF 1 x WTTTC, 2 x WC
IOC 1 x OG

This is without continental events (ie for European pros, that is another 4 events). It doesn't include national events (national championships), WTT contender series, other domestic events (club matches).

more and more tournaments are poping up and all the top players need to take part.
It's costing everyone (players and WTT) a lot of money to have such a busy schedule. Of which most of the venues ticket sales are shocking low attendance to say the least.

Questions has been asked - will hosting a WTT event help "develop" the sport in the country?
The answer has been no.
For example an event happening now in Puerto Princesa. It is very far from the TT population of Philippines. Little to no visitors last year, and still doesn't look like any improvements this year.
Yes - local players can take part, and that is about it.

In the US, we commonly put the month before the day. So May 1 is 5/1, and May 11 is 5/11. Hope this help.
