The announcement probably comes a bit a late, but who can still make it: you will be in for a lot of fun - on top of very competitive TT.
International TT-NEWS Open
4-6 July 2008 Oberboihingen (near Stuttgart), Germany The tournament has grown from year to year - in 2007, more than 1000 players participated! Top-ranked players participating last year were, among others, Torben Wosik, Patrick Chila, Emmanuel Lebesson, Tiago Apolonia, Damien Eloi, Daniel Gorak, Lucjan Blaszczyk, Liu Jia, and Kristin Silbereisen.
Although the majority of players come from Germany, the tournament is open to all.
Competition is divided into 7 categories for men: S (top ranked European and World level players), and A to F (from Bundesliga to local club level), and 3 categories for ladies. In addition, there are veterans' (men in 3 categories: 40+, 50+ and 60+; ladies only one category) and junior tournaments (-15 and -18 categories). (Players from abroad should establish their respective ranking with the organizers before registering.)

Just to give a short feedback on the tournament - I went there (for me, it was the first time) and enjoyed it thoroughly. Although at times it was as much a test of stamina as of playing skills.
My first tournament day ended at 2:00 am the following morning. This was the Open Tournament, where more than 150 players of all levels participated. It should have ended at midnight, but the finals were played at 2:30 am. Similarly on Saturday, I stopped playing at 3:00 am on Sunday morning.
Much of the late playing was due to the wide choice of competitions offered by the organizers - you could participate in several categories, which sometimes ran simultaneously. For the men, there were seven categories to choose from according to your playing level; on top of that, you could enter for veterans or youth competitions - age permitting - and also play doubles and mixed.
So participating in the tournament required patience, but you also had the chance to play in enough categories to make your coming worthwhile - especially if you are based in Germany.
And you were otherwise well looked after - food and drinks was available until late, and prices were reasonably. Accommodation ranged from simple B&B to decent medium-sized hotels; for the budget traveller, also youth camp style accommodation in the communal hall (mattresses on a gym floor; 15 for 3 nights) was available.
And if you were more interested in watching - the competitions on Sunday featured German and international top-ranking players.
