@ZJKandMLfan    What don't you like about his loop?  Just curious.  I'm not very experienced, but thought it looked all right.

Yeah being that close to the table, it only works when he knows where the ball's coming..

My stroke is similar. Size of the stroke doesn't really make a difference if you can make the point or can loop the next ball.

first, his swing is way too big and he's not generating that much spin.  Also, when he's playing in an actual game, he wont be able to loop at that velocity with him standing that close to the table.

Also, watch his right foot when he loops.  it keeps coming up which means his weight transfer is not properly done.  If you're right foot moves forward, then your recoil time getting ready for ur next shot, will be much slower.  Ur right foot just move a LITTLE forward when your looping unless its a HUGE kill.  watch professional players warm up, their weight goes frmo their right foot to their left.  their left foot goes forward rather then their right

his loop technique is good. i do no t know what he is telling.
but he is very didactic. he ends closing the blade angle what it is the right way.

it seems funny but he is right about what he is teaching.

This is common when you have a little more time, you displace both feet rotating towards the table, while rotating the upper body. If you watch professionals like wang liqin, ryu seung min, ma long, you will see this type of foot movement. I think it helps recover for the next stroke.

I don't like the beginning of this stroke. He hooks his arm around and behind his back. That takes extra time an energy (and effort) making doing another shot of the same kind difficult to do.

hahaha I like it too ,I would think this is more of a loop kill than a basic forehand stroke, I can understand others saying he has tooooa bigger backswing but I doubt if he was doing this particular shot all the time

You guys want to have strokes and play with rubbers similar to Chinese players  and you forget they have big swings.

Look here at Ma Lin ,too

How is this basic? In terms of weight transfer, timing, racquet angle...
This looks more than advanced...

Ma Long was playing a chopper. He had lots of time (especially with his quickness/speed) for big swings close to the table.

Wow I'd have to agree, that back stroke is ridiculous. Other than that it's a pretty decent stroke.
His right foot slipping forward isn't a horrible thing - I think it might be more because his right foot starts really far back. The end position of his right foot is about where a normal stance should be.

The right foot moving foward (to me) is a good indicator that he is rotating his hips and shoulders. He is using his arm basically as a whip (well maybe not as noodle like as a whip). Power comes from hip rotation and shoulder rotation. Elbow bending is just a result of normal body mechanics and isn't something that is done on purpose.

I'd say his stroke is correct. You don't need that much backswing to generate power and doing such a huge backswing at the table is risky.

As far as weight transference - yes ideally you would like to start with 60%-70% of your weight on your right foot then use your right leg to drive the rotation of your hips and then by the end of your stroke 70-80% of your weight is now on your left foot...
but that sort of entire body coordination is beyond my skill level for now. If I try to do this complex weight transference what I end up doing is putting 80% of my weight on my right foot..the..entire..stroke - end result being a stroke with much less power.

My coach has just told me to simply always put 80% of my weight on my left foot. It may not be the perfect stroke but it will allow me to achieve the proper rotation. After I've mastered this then I can see if I can do this whole weight shifting thing.

I think that Ma Long's hand barely pases the side of his body. In terminal point of his swing his arm is straight and not that far back behind his body, and his body as whole is turned, so it looks like big swing, but actually he just straightens his arm and turn his body more. But he never have his arm behind his back that far, i think.

Very nice! It really has a bit of the KLH stylish feel! Its a loopkill, or at least a long range reply, so recovery time is probably not so important.

I think he just matches the backswing to the time he has. In this case he has lots of time, so of course he takes a nice big backswing and lets rip. He has a very fast relaxed arm though, and he kinda uses his legs to position for the ball while the arm is swinging.

This guy Kong hits a few good forehands off the bounce.  He seems to look pretty decent and does some of what the kid above is doing

These guys are just kong linghui haters. Bringing the arm back allows you to attack down the line and crosscourt.

It looks to me that Kong has smaller back swing than Ma Long

Wang hao has a really big backswing, often it just swings out of line with his shoulder.

loks pretty decent?  hes a fricking legend:P

u guys r forgetting that ma long is playing a chopper and also, that ball that joo is chopping has a lot less spin and therefore he can light that shot up real good.

also, if u guys watch ma long play inverted attacking players, his stroke is a LOT smaller and i definitely do not agree on how pros shift their right foot forward.

even if they do, it is very little.  for the most part, there left leg is doing the movement not the right

50% incorrect. The reason ma long has a bigger stroke against a chopper is because he has more time to wait, prepare his arm, bring it back, and pounce. It has nothing to do with the amount of spin in ma long's particular case. Btw choppers have wayyyyyyyyy more spin than attackers.
