Hello guys!

Long time no see Big smile This is my first time posting a video of myself playing a training match since I moved to long pips. Hopefully you guys will give me some insights as to how to improve my game further because there are definitely many big flaws in my game and my opponent as well which we haven't found out yet! So any constructive criticisms (even harsh ones) are welcome. If you would like, can you please rate me and my friend according to the US scale if possible? I'm not sure how it works but would like to see which level me and my friend (trainee)  are on. That would be helpful too.

No problem, other than that I would just say make sure you aren't flat footed on the return of serve.  I realize it is hard to see how a person is balanced in a video, but from your ready stance it kind of looks like you might be.
 
As for level it is difficult to say because I cannot see the other person in the video at the same time during the rally.  So it's hard to tell if the person out of the screen is giving the one that's in screen quality shots.

ur forehand push isn't heavy enough.  theres actually nto much spin on that so u wanna add a lot more especially if ur a chopper

I don't have any tip for your style, but I think you play very well.  If you can play like you do in the video against any player, then I think any one under 1800 may have problem with you.

your a very good chopper you just have to improve your forehand stroke don't just use your arm use your body and hips too..goodluck

If you have to hit a 2nd fh shot, you stand up right after the first one.  Make you get ready again for the next shot by squatting back down again.  This will let you be soooo much more consistent on fh.

TBS9x is higher than 1600, but easily under 2000. His chops are not so heavy, land high, and not so deep. He would trouble the U1600 crowd. His serve/attack is above 1600.

Oh, forgot the training partner. He chicken wing returns balls on FH with BH and seems to be generally 100 points lower rated than TBS9x.

Pretty good! I guess your rating could be about 1750-1800, and your friend's rating is about 1650.

Thank you! I did play my defensive game rather badly during the match :D I have to admit that, the chops are high because I chop the balls too early and I'm trying to fix it as soon as possible.

You're definitely right.  Just look how play Pushblocker  and he is over 2200. TBS9x  is better in every way. I mean PB even  doesn't have  a FH and he is 2200+.

I'd say 1800-1900. And the talk about pushblocker is nonsense, its a different type of game to play against a good long pip blocker and a chopper.

Maybe 1800 on a "good day". His opponent is feeding him lots of "creampuff",easy balls. A good 2000 class looper in my area would eat his lunch.(No offense intended TBS9x)

I must agree with this to an extent, it is very difficult to say how good he really is just because it does not appear he is being put under very much pressure.

I think you guys just over valuation for a 1900 player..
1900 player basically just OK serve with some FH....
look at your club, you won't see that many 1900 able continue loop heavy under spin against a chopper. some 1900 even have problem with LP.
TBS9x has good serve, good push, FH and footwork that is about what a chopper needed.
He definitely over 2000.

No no guys, I can't be compared to Pushblocker because we don't fall into the same category, definitely. And even just assuming that I have a better forehand and some other techniques, that is not what counts when it is put into the rating because he simply wins because opponents are not familiar with his style and I bet if I meet him the first time he will probably have me 3-0 easily.
@tomkat22,roundrobin,carbonTT: you guys are right on the spot! I can't say that I'm over 1800, maybe around 1700 maximum because I feel that my performance is still not stable enough, what I show you now is just on a fairly good day when I'm not under pressure, maybe I will have to post something again soon so you guys can compare? And yes tomkat22, what you say is true LOL I'm fine with that. Well, unless I'm in a surprisingly good shape and he suits my game then we might not know but on an average day then I'm pretty screwed.

Once again, very grateful for all the comments Thumbs Up MYTT is still best place to learn on the net :D

Actually I just realized that my backhand chops are impaired because when I wait for the ball I put my weight on my left leg which is supposed to be moving (stupid me...), I should have put most weight on the right leg so I can quickly "leap" to my left side so I can get ready for my opponent's loop.

LOL Okay, cool cool, a little confusing term but alright Tongue Anyway about the movement when chopping on backhand side, I normally put too much pressure on the left leg when waiting for the ball which means that the ball might just go straight to my body or very wide to my backhand. In case it is wide to my backhand and I'm already having a lot of weight on my left leg then I can't move to the left because I'm stabilizing my body with that leg. But now that I know my problem, when I wait for the ball I would put more weight on the right leg so that I can push myself to the left if needed and then all the weight will be transfered to the left leg again during the chop Big smile

I think you're right. It works both ways but I confused the direction of movement. When anticipating a forward dash, the weight should be on your back (left) leg (if you're right handed), and for backward dashes, the weight should be on the front (right) leg. Note that you should try keeping (and pushing off) on the ball of your right foot instead of just planting all your weight flat-footed on the ground for greater agility.

Either way, your form is impressive and you should continue making video updates. Smile

You have a nice all-round game , I like your modern defender attitude but why would you want to try and chop a serve thats gone past the end line when you can easily loop it (and you did at times) you should be attacking when you can rather than being a target lol ie you can chop a topspin and have a good effect but not usually a service recieve
 I don't know how anyone could rate your partner as no-one could see him (I take that back if you changed ends as I only watched the vid for a while)

@smackman: thank you! I didn't change the camera angle so maybe next time I will use two cameras to make things easier. Anyway, the reason I didn't loop is because I wanted to play safe (that's bad) but also the playing area is very limited and I don't want to hit my racket or my head to the wall so that's my only viable option Big smile

Even for sideways movement, the footwork I described can still apply, except instead of putting weight on the stabilizing back foot and keeping little weight on the ball of the leading foot, the weight would be distributed evenly on both balls of the feet for quick lateral movement. Cheers.

Edit: Should note that obviously the weight cannot be kept always on the balls of the feet as that would be a great strain overall on the legs. I meant that the push-off motion from side to side must start from the balls of the feet. Embarrassed

First of all, well played.
I think the first thing you should try on working is your body movement when you play the ball, especially when playing your forehand. Most of the times, you should start the movement with your body a little lower, and then move it upward in the direction you are playing the ball (more up if it's a topspin against backspin, and more front if it's a countertopspin), as it would allow you to make less arm movement. Also think you should have to put your upper body a little less parallel to the table, again specially with the FH, but that could be the camera angle.
  With your pimples, in the return of the service try to push a little more, as you will give more speed and effect to the ball, and when defending far away of the table maybe try brush the ball a little more, you will see that it gives a lot more effect.

this guy is a great player but he is not pb's lvl and definitely not over 2000.  i wud say hes about 1700 to be fair.
