The boys final at the Grace Lin Hopes was an all Alameda event, with Avery Chan beating Aziz Zarehbin 3-1.

Joanna Sung was first and Linda Shu second in the girls event.

I have known Avery for a number of years, the first time I watch him warm up with his dad several years ago I was impressed how smooth his strokes looked.  Its nice to see someone like Avery who has worked hard finally gain such high level recognition.

When Avery was younger, he was one of those who successfully completed our Olympic track program.

The program consisted of 6 months of shadow stroke, footwork, agility ladder, and fitness WITHOUT BALL.

Interestingly all non-Asian students dropped out by month number 2.

Does anyone know where draws and results are posted?

I know Alameda's Avery Chan won his first 2 matches.
3:2 over Canada's Sunny Zhang & 3:2 over ICC's Mudit Mahajan.

Avery goes to 4-0 and is now the only undefeated US boy. Also undefeated in the boys is Canada's Adrian Wei.

Rachael Sung is the only undefeated girl. She is 4-0 without dropping a game.

Avery needs to win his final match to tie the leader... Rachael is a special talent and most likely will emerge as a high ranking  adult in the coming years

All the players at this Hopes Challenge were just superb, if this is an indication of what talent and personalities are out there in America and Canada, table tennis in North America is going to have have some interesting years ahead.

Just a follow up to conclude the thread...sorta

Congratulations to Len Yan (G) and Rachel Sung (B) for making the podium in Qatar, unfortunately Rachel didn't get top spot on the girls side as she ran into this Singaporean in the semis but Len did make the team to Shanghai's World Hopes in October for his first place finish.

No, that is wrong.  Rachel was in the top 4; she was the 2nd best player there.  What is unfortunate is that the selection rules state that only one player per country may be placed on the Hopes team, so because Len (from the U.S.) was selected, she became ineligible.
