Just curious, since most players at one time or another praise these two classic rubbers a lot. Which one is:
(a) faster?
(b) spinnier?
(c) easier to control?
(d) longer lasting?
Let's talk both unglued with Sriver EL 2.1 vs. Mark V 2.0.
Thanks.

both are very long lasting
I would say Sriver EL to be a bit faster when glued, but MV faster unglued, both are very easy to control, maybe EL a bit easier to control
both are grippy and about the same in terms of spin

i also like mv better when unglued.
i just can't use the EL without glued. el without glue= avage rubber
el with glue= outstanding rubber.

Thanks for the replies. I know that Mark V should be compared to Sriver L, which both are classic, but I think most people prefer EL now.

I agree with the idea that EL is better when it's glued. I think Mark V is a more versatile rubber though. It's great to generate massive amounts of topspin, even without glue. Sriver EL goes much better on the BH though. MV FH and EL BH is a great weapon. |

How about all these new types of Mark V - any of them better on BH than regular Mark V, perhaps?

The classic Mark V is the best unglued, it has the perfect mix of speed, control and spin..but glued i think GPS is better for backhand..its softer and its easier to backhandtopspin. with the new booster Mark V PowerCharge GPS is excellent for bh, it has even more speed and spin than speedglue.

Yea.. perhaps I should try Mark V on my BH... I am not sure about the thickness though - my 'thickness" dilemma ("thin" probably means less spin for my loops, "thick" means less power for hit-thru smash) is still bothering me.

i've own these rubbers before but i dun speedglue.
comparing Sriver L vs Mark V, i prefer Sriver L. it has more power & is more grippy (esp black) Mark V topsheet is a tiny bit oily & thus dun grip the ball as well as sriver. i tried cleaning it off but it'll come back again cos its the property of the rubber. and regarding the total power u'll get, it will depends on the blade matchup. some blade enhence the power of the rubber cos both of their resonent frequency is more in-sync wz each other. it'll cost quite a bit finding the right match but when u do u'll love ur equipment even more. |

I use Mark V 30 and Sriver EL.
Before with glue, now with CTE.
I prefer Mark V 30 on the forhand.
Mark V 30 has a softer sponge and is slightly faster with about the same spin as Sriver EL.
The EL on the backhand gives you slightly more control probably due to the sponge being a little harder.
Sriver L has even more control.
I have been using various forms of these 2 rubbers for 40 years and still can't find anything better.

Thanks, Backhand! I am myself leaning to the same combo - at least I will be trying it soon. What are the thicknesses of your rubbers? |

If you go for that set up, we will be playing with exactly the same.
Galaxy T-4(varnished 3 times)
Mark V 30 2.0m Sriver EL 2.1m Tibhar CTE (6 layers) I would recommend the CTE.
I am still very happy with this setup. I have started on the CTE since begining of Dec on the T-4.
It just feels so go.
I played a Veterans Tournament yesterday with it. Its so nice not to have to speed glue all day. Saves so much time.

I used CTE with almost all of my rubbers by now - it really is a nice alternative to speed-gluing. And I also hate to glue all the time - that's just not how the game should be played... I don't mind other people doing that, it's just that I am more of the old school proponent - you can spend pounds of speed-glue but all that time you could be working on your technique or footwork instead... which is WAY more important. I have tried Sriver FX on my T-4 but I wasn't too happy about hit-thru smashes... I'll try EL and will give it and myself more time to adjust |

I used to use 3 layers of speed glue. For a 3-4 hour playing period.
With the CTE I put 6 layers on the first time and it wasn't as fast.
Last week I put on another 3 layers and it was faster than my original 3 layers of speed glue. I also hope this will last for at least 3 weeks.
I have speed glued for a least 20 years and believe this CTE stuff is better.
I'm sure manufactureres have known about this kind of product for a long time. But wanted to sell speed glue instead, as it ruins the rubbers quicker.

There just might be smth to your "paranoid" conspiracy idea. In any case, CTE works pretty good but I haven't yet put the extra layers for the second gluing... that's coming in a couple of weeks. |
